Monica Espinosa is a volunteer collaborator with the Welfare Footprint Institute, supporting animal welfare research initiatives. She earned a degree in Veterinary Medicine from Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, Mexico in 2024. During her veterinary studies, she worked in clinical practice, as a veterinary laboratory analyst, and as a marine mammal research assistant. Through her clinical work, Monica realized that while she could help individual animals that came through the clinic, she wanted to create a larger impact for animals at scale. This motivated her to pursue a second degree in Data Engineering and Artificial Intelligence at Universidad Politécnica de Yucatán, with the goal of combining veterinary science with data-driven approaches to quantify and improve welfare across large farmed animal populations
