Dr. benjamin wilden

aquatic welfare research

Benjamin holds a Ph.D. in Animal Ecology from the University of Bielefeld (Germany), where his research focused on the comparative analysis of meiobenthic diversity across habitats in ancient lakes in Europe, Africa, and Asia. His work integrates community ecology, aquatic invertebrate diversity, and the use of ecological indicators to assess environmental conditions in complex aquatic systems.

In parallel to his academic career, Benjamin is deeply rooted in the aquarium and aquaculture sector. As the owner of AquaPurist, a small-scale ornamental shrimp breeding initiative, he has gained extensive hands-on experience in long-term animal observation, selection, and the assessment of health, stress responses, and welfare-related traits under captive conditions. By combining rigorous scientific research with practical experience from aquaristics, Benjamin aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and applied welfare improvements in aquaculture systems
