Compare estimates of the expected time ONE INDIVIDUAL THAT IS AFFECTED by the welfare challenges listed spends in pain (physical or psychological) of three intensities (Hurtful, Disabling and Excruciating). The period over which time in pain was calculated (e.g., a day, a lifetime, one episode) is specified by hovering the mouse over each welfare challenge in the tree maps. The data is the direct output of the estimates and pain-tracks available at (1) pain-track.org/hens, (2) pain-track.org/broilers and (3) pain-track.org/broilers/stunning. All estimates are justified in the books Quantifying Pain in Laying Hens and Quantifying Pain in Broiler Chickens.

Estimates represent the expected time one individual spends in pain (physical or psychological) if she is affected by any of the harms listed. They do not take into account the prevalence of the problem in the population. As any estimates using the Cumulative Pain framework, they represent what the authors consider to be the best evidence reflecting current knowledge on pain to date. All estimates are treated as hypotheses, and are subject to adjustment as new evidence becomes available or compelling arguments are presented.
We make the datasets available so that other stakeholders can analyze the data in different ways and/or use it for decision-making.
