Abstract
In previous Chapters we explored the time spent in negative affective states (operationally referred to as ‘pain’ - Box 1.1, Chapter 1 [ 1]) endured by an individual as a consequence of an injury, a disease or behavioral deprivation. To this end, we mapped each welfare challenge into four categories of pain intensity, and estimated the time in pain endured in each category using the analytical framework introduced in Chapter 1 [ 1].
