Abstract
In 2013, the largest project on farm animal health and welfare funded by the European Union 1 was launched, with the overall goal of helping combat production diseases in animals raised intensively, namely those “diseases which tend to persist in animal production systems and, typically, become more prevalent or severe in proportion to the potential productivity of the system” [1].
