Abstract
Since the 1960s, profound transformations in the livestock industry took place, but nowhere else were they as dramatic as in the poultry industry. This was particularly pronounced in the production of birds raised for their meat (known as broiler chickens), which has expanded from six billion birds slaughtered per year in 1960 to over 70 billion in 2020.
